MarxMenu works under all versions of Windows including Win95/98 NT and Windows 2000. There are some issues you have to be aware of.
Under NT in order to make it work you have to set an environment variable as follows:
SET MXCMD=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXThis creates extra environment space for MarxMenu to use for it's environment variables. This has been tested under NT4, 2000 and NT 3.51. MarxMenu can start windows programs under NT.
To set this you do it from the Control Panel, then the System icon, then select the environment variable option. This sets the environment in the CMD NT environment. One thing you need to be aware of in NT is that dos and command.con are running under CMD and that environments are not shared between tasks, and that the CMD environment can not be accessed from the DOS environment.
Windows 95/98 run under DOS and the master environment can be accessed. There have been some problems if you use DOS=HIGH,UMB in your config.sys. If you have environment problems, check your config.sys file.
MarxMenu can access long file names under Windows 95/98 and 2000, but not under Windows NT. If you are running on a Win98 wirkstation you can access long names on an NT server. Maybe someday Microsoft will fix this on NT, but as of Service Pack 6 it's not fixed. They fixed it in Win2000 so the code exists to do it right.
MarxMenu also seems to work under DosEmu under Linux and I hope to add more support in the future. As of version 1.01 long file names are not supported.
