DON'T PROGRAM YOURSELF INTO A CORNER

Using the above techniques will allow you to write very complex menu systems. Failing to use these techniques can limit what you can accomplish. There is a term called "programming yourself into a corner" which refers to a program that is so poorly written, that it can't be modified to accommodate changes and improvements.

The height of your programming abilities depends on the foundation on which they are built. You must avoid rushing to the top without first creating a firm foundation on which to build. Good technique is the foundation for good programming. You will have to learn it eventually, it is more efficient to do it right than it is to do it over.

Adopting good programming habits reminds me of my favorite light bulb joke:

Q. How many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb?

A. Only one, but the light bulb has to want to change.
